A magistrate has lashed a 23-year-old man for a string of Burnie driving offences committed in August last year. Magistrate Leanne Topfer told Mitchell Kirkland he was “lucky” to not be before the court on more serious charges as his actions could have resulted in someone’s death. The learner driver was drunk and unaccompanied about 10pm on August 13 when he drove 60km/h over the speed limit to evade police along the Bass Highway at Round Hill, the court heard.
